Here are my stress reduction remedies for this time of year when stress increases whether we like it or not. How do you de-stress?
And no, running around like a chicken with your head cut off is not a way to reduce stress, although it may feel good for a moment to run around screaming. I have some remedies for you this holiday season that I know you will enjoy!
Meditate
There are many forms of meditation. You can find a meditation app on your phone called headspace, also guided meditation on youtube. What has kept me consistent with my meditation practice is that I have taken the Transcendental Meditation course.
Take a bath
with epsom salts, candles, music. If that’s something you would enjoy. Apparently baths are very healing and cleansing in more ways than one.
Get a massage
I just had a massage with essential oils and it was amazing! There are so many different kinds of massage therapists out there. I’m sure you will find one that you enjoy. And yes, you deserve it, so don’t talk yourself out of it, or say it’s too much. It’s your body and your well being.
Cranio sacral therapy
I find this therapy so relaxing, and the last time I did a session I fell asleep. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember the last time that I felt so relaxed.
Spend quality time with friends and family
Be sure to be present, don’t think of all the things you have to do. Just enjoy the moment.
Acupuncture
This may not seem like it would be very relaxing, or a way to destress. But trust me, you will feel very relaxed, if not during, definitely afterward.
Sauna or steam
even just 20 minutes will do the trick. A great way to get rid of toxins in your body. Be sure to drink lots of water.
Be in nature
Get some fresh air by going for a walk, hike, or bike ride and just enjoy the quietness, the stillness and the beauty of nature.
Exercise
Get those feel good endorphins going. Whether it be a gentle yoga class, a group workout, or a session with your personal trainer, you’ll be glad you fit in the exercise over the holidays, to help you feel your best.
You’ll notice a lot of the ways to de-stress are just allowing time for yourself for a good chunk of time. 20 minutes to an hour is great!
If you can do that everyday, then you are well on your way to a no-stress or less-stressed holiday season. Try one, or try them all. Bringing your stress down is very important to your health.
